LANSING – State Representative Dudley Spade (D-Tipton) will be receiving the Achievement Award for Excellence from Wolverine Human Services at their annual "Helping Children to be Victors" Banquet on April 5, 2008. The State Representative from Tipton, who chairs the House Appropriations Subcommittee for the Department of Human Services, is being honored for his long-time advocacy for children and families across the State of Michigan.
"Our children cannot hire lobbyists to represent or speak for them. They rely on each and every legislator to be their voice in Lansing and to stand up for their best interests," Rep. Spade said. "I am humbled and honored to be receiving this award from Wolverine Human Services. Child advocacy has been my life's work and has certainly been my focus in crafting the Department of Human Services budget these past two years. I look forward to continuing my work on behalf of all Michigan's children."
The Achievement Award for Excellence is given annually to honor an individual for his or her advocacy for children and families in Michigan. Previous award recipients include former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer, Ed McNamara, Bo Schembechler, and Pat Babcock among others.
"Representative Spade's advocacy has helped countless children all across the State of Michigan," Wolverine Human Services said in a statement released today. "He has been a long-time supporter of children's rights and the generous support he has provided for child and family agencies throughout Michigan is greatly appreciated. We are very pleased to have the opportunity to honor him."
