Price Tag Legislation: House Bill 4636
A price tag on merchandise provides visible evidence of how much something costs. And it is the only easy way for customers to know at the check-out if the scanner makes a mistake. Requiring shoppers to print their own price tags by linking to the same database used at the check-out will only replicate check-out errors, leaving them with no easy way to determine if they have been overcharged. Michigan’s item pricing law has protected consumers for nearly 30 years. We cannot afford to destroy the gains we’ve made by abandoning the most comprehensive consumer protection system in the nation.
