Identity fraud destroys peoples' lives, but California is the only state that presently requires companies like ChoicePoint to disclose breaches in security. People need to be notified right away if their personal information has been compromised. My legislation, House Bill 4525, will give them peace of mind in knowing that if a leak occurs, they will be told. By arming people with this knowledge, it allows them the opportunity to be extra vigilant and to take what steps they can to protect themselves from fraud.
