Home Heating Assistance
With the arrival of winter comes the arrival of higher heating costs. The Michigan Public Service Commission said consumers can expect a 40% increase in home heating bills this winter. For low income families as well as seniors on fixed incomes, this increase is a major problem. House Democrats have introduced a package of bills that would put an emergency energy plan in place to help those families and individuals cope. The package would ban utilities from shutting off heat to homes during the winter months, provide payment assistance through emergency funds and offer incentives to help families make their homes more energy efficient. This legislation will help a great number of households this winter and in winters to come.
