I urge the Legislature to take immediate action on my resolution urging the State and local government to adopt alternative fuel technology into their fleets. Today, Michigan is more dependent than ever on foreign oil and it is only getting worse. We have the resources we need to reverse this trend. Bio-diesel is made from soybeans and ethanol is made from corn, both major agricultural commodities in our state. With our auto manufacturing expertise and sizable agricultural economy, Michigan is a natural place to expand fuel options for existing and future vehicles. We can and should be the world leader in developing alternative and renewable energy sources.
