LANSING – The Michigan Agri-Business Association (MABA) today recognized State Representative Dudley Spade (D-Tipton) as their Outstanding Legislator of the Year for 2006 for his efforts in strengthening Michigan's agricultural industry. The Outstanding Legislator of the Year Award is MABA's highest legislative honor and is presented yearly to the state representative or senator who has provided essential leadership in agricultural public policy issues.
"I am extremely honored to receive this award from an incredible organization that puts the agricultural industry first and foremost," Spade said. "Michigan highly depends on agriculture and I will continue to bring about good change for the second largest industry in our state."
Spade, who has long been recognized as a friend of agriculture, has most recently been at the forefront of efforts to bring the renewable fuel industry to Lenawee County. Along with his efforts to help secure the new ethanol plant in Riga and bring the anticipated new biodiesel facility in Adrian, Spade has also called on the Legislature to act on his resolution that urges the state and local governments to lead the way to oil independence by using more biodiesel, ethanol, and American made gas-electric-hybrid vehicles in their fleets.
"An investment in ethanol and alternative fuels is an investment in agribusiness, our state's economy, and in our farmers and agricultural workers in Lenawee County," Spade said. "I am proud of the work I do on behalf of Michigan's farmers and am honored to be recognized for it."
