LANSING – State Representative Dudley Spade (D-Tipton) today announced that the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) has awarded grants totaling $78,300 to the Lenawee Emergency and Affordable Housing Coalition (LEAHC) and Family Counseling and Children's Services of Lenawee (FCCS).
These funds will help LEAHC assist 750 qualified individuals over the 2009-2010 grant year. FCCS will be able to provide essential services as well as homeless prevention activities serving homeless or at-risk populations in Lenawee County. No state funds were expended in the administration of these grants. The organizations will be able to assist an estimated 950 eligible persons in the 2009-2010 grant year coordinated through the Lenawee County Continuum of Care.
"LEAHC and FCCS provide Lenawee County with an invaluable public service, helping people in our community in their time of greatest need," Rep. Spade said. "In these tough times, it is getting harder and harder for our non-profits to stay viable on donations alone. I applaud their efforts and wish both LEAHC and Family Counseling the best of luck and I would like to thank them for their service."
LEAHC was awarded $39,150 with which they will be able to assist an estimated 750 eligible persons in the 2009-2010 grant year. FCCS also received $39,150 to provide essential services and homeless prevention activities serving homeless or at-risk populations in Lenawee County. With this support, FCCS will assist an estimated 200 eligible persons in the 2009-2010 grant year. Both grants include $3,750 for costs associated with coordinating these programs through the Lenawee County Continuum of Care.
The funds were awarded through MSHDA's Emergency Shelter program and are directed at sustaining and developing emergency shelter and continuing essential services and operations that serve the homeless and/or at-risk families and individuals in Lenawee County. With this support, FCCS and LEAHC will also be able to facilitate community-wide planning and collaboration among homeless programs and services in Lenawee County.
