TIPTON – State Representative Dudley Spade (D-Tipton) today announced that the Lenawee Emergency and Affordable Housing Corporation (LEAHC) has been awarded $270,787 through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program. The grant will be administered by the Michigan Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) over a two-year period to provide financial assistance and services to either prevent individuals and families from becoming homeless or help those who are experiencing homelessness to be quickly re-housed and stabilized.
"During tough economic times like these, those that are least able to afford it have been the hardest hit. These funds are crucial to allowing our most vulnerable citizens to stay in their homes and off the street," Spade said. "I would like to commend LEAHC for protecting the people of Lenawee County and for working tirelessly to see to it that they are maximizing every opportunity to secure funding that will improve the quality of life for so many."
MSHDA is requiring that 85 percent of the first year funding be spent in the first 12 months (85% of 50% of the grant amount). Prior to the end of the first year, the grant will be evaluated based on performance, data collection and use of funds. Based in the results, funds may be redistributed and access to the remaining funds will be contingent on performance. MSHDA is requiring 100% of the funds to be expended within two years of the grant issuance date.
