LANSING - State Rep. Dudley Spade (D-Tipton) today announced that the Stubnitz Environmental Education Center (SEEC) in Adrian will be hosting the next three Michigan Environmental Education Curriculum Support (MEECS) Workshops beginning in June and ending in November. The workshops will be held on the following dates and times at SEEC, 4107 Adrian Hwy., in Adrian:
Thursday June 15, 2006 from 8:30 am until 3:00 pm
Thursday August 10, 2006 from 8:30 am until 3:00 pm
Thursday November 9, 2006 from 8:30 am until 3:00 pm
"I am very pleased that Lenawee County has been chosen to host a Michigan Environmental Education Curriculum Support workshop" Spade said. "This is an excellent opportunity for both students and teachers in Lenawee County to expand on the normal classroom experience and learn first hand the challenges of protecting and preserving our great natural resources."
SEEC previously hosted two other MEECS workshops this year: "Ecosystems & Biodiversity" in February and "Air Quality" in March. The MEECS workshops, administered by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality, are designed to provide students in grades four through nine with an opportunity to learn about their environment through five different curriculum units: Air Quality, Ecosystems & Biodiversity, Energy Resources, Land Use, and Water Quality. The state of Michigan is one of only a handful of states that has created its own environmental education curriculum.
"I hope all that are interested are able to attend and take advantage of this wonderful opportunity," Spade said. "It is incumbent upon us as residents of Michigan to learn to be stewards of the land and protectors of our unique natural resources."
